In another life (or at least the earlier years of this one) I was somewhat of a Web geek. Well, okay, I still am. And it’s this part of me – the part that loves beautiful design and used to be a decorating editor for HGTV.com – who cringes when she sees beautiful blogs about yoga juxtaposed with hideous WordPress blog themes.
If you’re not ready to invest in a custom design, check out these inexpensive (or free!) install-it-yourself WordPress themes for blogging yoga teachers and students.
You can easily add these to a WordPress custom site installation, and the first is also available for WordPress.com hosted blogs.
1. We Wei – FREE
Sleek and simple, this theme embodies saucha. It’s straightforward and minimalist so that your pictures and words pop. Features a custom header, background and alternate dark scheme.
2. City – $49
A Pinterest-like layout, perfect for showcasing the how-to’s of yoga asana. Bonus: Looks great on mobile + tablet!
3. Mondo Zen Theme – FREE
With a henna-inspired header and lotus flower, how can you go wrong? This simple green and white blog design is reminiscent of Blogger’s two-column templates. Great for busy yogis who don’t need all the bells and whistles.
4. ThemeMin – $49
A nice departure from typical blog layouts, this theme features a slider of featured blog posts. And because you probably don’t want to bother with HTML, simply drag and drop the different components to completely customize this theme.
5. Simfo – $49
This simplistic theme features your best stuff rotating front and center, as well as blog and video categories so that all your yoga content sits side-by-side. Another extremely easy to customize theme (drag and drop) so you can make it fully yours.
6. Divi – $69 (+ get access to all of the themes on Elegant Theme’s website)
I spotted the Yogipreneur using this theme, along with many other yogis who are using it to create retreat or workshop landing pages. It’s amazingly flexible, fun and interactive.
7. Yoga Instructor – $80
This one’s literally named “yoga instructor wordpress theme” and it’s got everything you’d need for a typical yoga instructor site (events, workshops, class schedule and photo gallery) but it’s also a pricier option than the rest.
8. Wellness – $48
If you’ve got a thriving yoga business (and perhaps studio) you’ll want to check this theme out. It’s got a built-in form for students to request time with you, as well as lots of room for your photos and blog content.
9. Memoir – $69 (+ get access to all of the themes on Elegant Theme’s website)
Featuring four gorgeous backgrounds, this theme takes a visual page from an old-fashioned book. Photo gallery and portfolio pages ensure you’ve got plenty of flexibility to show off headshots and yoga poses.
10. Frank – FREE
Don’t have a lot of photos but have a lot to say? Take the pressure off with a clean, elegant theme that features your writing and has plenty of white space.
